Hello again. Did you participate in Me-Made-May this year? I have pledged to wear two garments each day and I’ve pretty much stuck to it. My handmade wardrobe is getting that big! I’m all about the separates (hence my two-garment pledge) and so many of my makes have been Simple Sew ones.
I confess I made the High-Waisted Trousers some time ago as a pattern tester. Despite the ultra-cheap fabric I used to make them I absolutely love them. They are brilliant for my working wardrobe and they featured in Me-Made-May several times! They come up very high on the waist (obviously) and they are finished with a facing rather than a waistband. The shaping comes from front and back darts and there is a concealed centre back zip for a neat finish. Although they’re wide legged they’re not ridiculously so and there’s a cute little turn up at the bottom.
I think they’re very flattering although they don’t look like much on the hanger! I’ve lightened the photo so you can see that the fabric has checks on it. I don’t usually invest in the good stuff for a pattern test so I really wasn’t expecting great things from my £3.45 per metre fabric. It’s pure polyester (I think) but my trousers are dry the second they come out the washing machine. Is that a good thing?
I made the size 14 and I made no adjustments whatsoever. This is brilliant (and highly unusual!) and I really must make myself some more. Because they fit me so well they are so comfortable to wear. I can put in an entire day at work and not feel the urge to take them off the instant I get home again. I particularly like them because they give the illusion that I have a waist and they really play down my mum-tum! They look particularly good with tucked in tops and they are perfect paired with my Simple Sew Pussy-bow blouse.
I’ve just very kindly been given a lot of suiting fabric from a work colleague – metres and metres of the stuff! This would be the perfect pattern for it. By next May I may have a few more pairs in my me-made wardrobe.
