I have seen quite a few lovely versions of the cocoon dress popping up around social media, so I decided it was my turn to see what all the fuss was about.
Based on the finished garment measurements, I decided to make a straight size 6 with no fit adjustments as the silhouette is quite loose-fitting.
This month I got to choose my fabric from Rainbow fabrics, and opted for this bottle green Cupro as I have heard very good things around social media, and was keen to try it for myself. The fabric did not disappoint – it has a blue undertone and an almost golden sheen. It is very opaque and well suited to this pattern, and was easy to cut out and sew.
I made view A with the long sleeves as we’re not quite into spring, so I needed the extra coverage. The dress itself came together quite quickly; the only modification I made was to add side vents as the dress ended up a bit shorter than I expected on me, so I needed extra room for movement.
The simple silhouette means you can go wild with fabric choice, as it would really show off a bold print, but it also looks great in plain fabrics. I bet it would look good with some embroidery around the neckline or along the centre front seam too… the choice is yours!
See you next time!
