You know those occasions where you have to dress smart-casual (what does that even mean?!), and you opt for the reliable “jeans and a nice top”? Well… this pattern might just be perfect for those moments! It’s sooo comfortable, and effortlessly stylish; and even better, really quick to make!

I went with my instinct and made the top in a size XS. I didn’t find the finished garment measurements overly helpful, but since you tie the top to fit, the size you pick isn’t critical. I lengthened the top by 2” (5 cm), but left the ties in the original placement.

The fabric I chose was this gorgeous Dashwood Studios rayon from Doughtys. I really love the quality of these fabrics, and the designs have a great updated vintage feel.

The top came together really quickly from cutting it out (just 3 pattern pieces for front/back, neck facings and ties!), to sewing it together (no darts, grown on sleeves). I overlocked the seams, but French seams would be fairly easy to do on this simple blouse, if your fabric is sheer, or prone to fraying.

I like how it looks tied at the front or the back. The looseness has been great for the summer temperatures, but I will be throwing a vest top on underneath to wear it year-round when it cools down.

I think the Juliette blouse would look great in any drapey fabric – I’m tempted to try it in a chiffon georgette to wear over a vest top. It would be easy to lengthen into a dress too.
See you next time!
