Have you heard of a buffet dress? The first episode of Series 7 of The Great British Sewing Bee sees the bees creating a buffet dress for real life models in the final challenge of the show.

We were super excited to see Joe Lycett’s post revealing some of the Sewing Bees who will be taking part, we can’t wait to meet them and find out more about their sewing style.

Buffet Dress Challenge!

But have you heard of a buffet dress before, it’s a dress style that has become popular during lockdown. It’s a far cry from a smart cocktail dress in fact it’s a relaxed floaty dress that covers all, perfect for home working and disguising any lockdown excess! If you have spent lockdown nibbling on cheese and biscuits then this is the perfect dress style and will give your friends a giggle when you tell them you’re wearing your buffet dress! It’s a step up from PJ’s!

We have a wonderful Kaftan Simple Sew Dress pattern that perfectly suits the description of a buffet dress and is a great dress pattern for beginners to try.

The Simple Sew Kaftan

A kaftan is the ultimate in lounge wear, whether your lounging around at home or by the pool. It’s a lovely style to keep you cool and comfortable and with tie in the waist you can choose how cinched in you want the waistline.

This pattern has two versions, a full kaftan dress or a lovely relaxed top that would look great with leggings. Or in the summer just as a short dress.

Blogger Susan Young has created a step by step tutorial for sewing up a kaftan – find it here Simple Sew Kaftan Pattern
